Mad Monster Party - 1987 Demos

Mad Monster Party was a great all-girl pop band from Los Angeles formed by Gwynne Kelly (formerly of The Pandoras) in 1987. The band featured Gwynne on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Linda Kennedy on lead guitar and vocals, Lynell Lacey on keyboards and vocals, Kelly Krause on bass and Jody Ritacco on drums and vocals. These are some of their earliest demos.

The Mockers

Here's a few of my favorite demos by The Mockers. They were recorded at a private makeshift studio in Burbank, California on January 19th, 1989. The lineup at the time was:

Val Petzak - guitar & lead vocals
Kris Hoover - guitar & vocals
Diane L. - percussion & vocals
Lisa - bass & vocals
Michelle McCarthy - drums

All the songs are written by Val except 'Stolen Time' which was written and sung by Kris.

The "Lost" Pandoras Album

The Pandoras recorded the "Come Inside" LP in late 1987. It was to be their major label debut. Due to various conflicts the band was dropped from the label and the album was shelved. The lineup at the time was:

Paula Pierce - lead vocals & guitar
Melanie Vammen - keyboards & vocals
Kim Shattuck - bass & vocals
Karen Blankfeld - drums & vocals

All the songs are written by Paula.

The Cavegurls

The Cavegurls hailed from Minneapolis, Minnesota and featured Sally Sweet on guitar, organ & vocals, Rena Erickson on bass & vocals and Jeanne Benjamin on drums & vocals. They released a cool four-song E.P. in 1989. The girls all handled lead vocal chores. That's Sally singing 'Just Out Of Reach', Rena on 'I Need You', Jeanne on 'Little Lover', and the girls all sing together on their original composition 'Theme From Cavegurl'. See below for MP3's.

Mad Monster Party single

Mad Monster Party was a great all-girl pop band from Los Angeles formed by Gwynne Kelly (formerly of The Pandoras) in 1987. The band featured Gwynne on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Linda Kennedy on lead guitar and vocals, Lynell Lacey on keyboards and vocals, Kelly Krause on bass and Jody Ritacco on drums and vocals. They put out this very limited edition single in October 1988. It received some airplay on KROQ and a couple of other local radio stations.

Dark November

Dark November was one of the last demos recorded by Paula Pierce of The Pandoras. I believe it was recorded in late 1990. She passed away on August 10th, 1991 and the following day Rodney Bingenheimer played this song on his radio show during his tribute to Paula.

Dark November.mp3

I don't wanna go
As I stand in this dreary, gray hotel
Now I feel like a child or actor
Who drifts on at the sound of a gun
What now have I gotten myself into

chorus:
All I see is a dark November
But all I want is a way back home

I can't go a day
Or a month or an hour without you
So I'm taking a long, hard look
Deciding if this life's worth seeing through
No one here can guess how I feel

I don't wanna go
As I stand in this dreary, gray hotel
Now I'm taking a long, hard look
Deciding if this life's worth seeing through
What now have I gotten myself into

Thanks to Ronald Vaughan for the lyrics.
Thanks to Bill for the tape.
